Coaching Requirements & Expectations

Anyone applying for a coaching position (Head Coach or Assistant Coach) with the Beausejour-Brokenhead Minor Hockey Association (BBMHA) MUST complete Steps 1 and 2 of the coaching application in their entirety to be considered for a coaching position. The BBMHA Executive will make coaching selections based on the applicant’s coaching experience, philosophy, and training.

​​​​​​​Applicants who are selected will be notified once teams have been formed. Selected coaches must then complete all remaining requirements by the specified deadlines and agree to adhere to all listed coaching expectations.

Coaching Application

1. Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) Registration

All coaches (managers & saftey person) must first register as bench staff through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR).

BBMHA Registration

2. BBMHA Coaching Application

The BBMHA Coaching Application must be completed in its entirety and submitted by the application deadline. The application form will be emailed to registered applicants.

Required Training

3. Hockey Canada & Respect in Sport Training

All required Hockey Canada coaching courses applicable to the level being coached must be completed by December 1, 2026.

Coaches (managers & saftey person) must also complete Respect in Sport – Activity Leader by December 1, 2026. Respect in Sport must be renewed every 5 years.

Additional Eastman Coaching Requirements

New Eastman policy requires all coaches to complete an additional course based on the age group they are coaching, in addition to the Hockey Canada coaching requirements.

All additional courses must be completed by December 1, 2026.

  • U7: Skating 1
  • U9: Goaltending
  • U11: Small Area Games
  • U13: Checking

Screening Requirements

4. Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check

All coaches (managers & saftey person) must complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) by December 1, 2026.

Criminal Record Checks are valid for 3 years.

5. Screening Disclosure Form

All coaches (managers & saftey person) must complete the Screening Disclosure Form required by Hockey Manitoba.

If you are already registered as bench staff, you must log into your Spordle account and complete the Screening Disclosure Form. This must be completed before you are permitted to step onto the ice.

New bench staff registrations will automatically be required to complete the form.

The Screening Disclosure Form must be completed annually.

Coaching Expectations

All BBMHA coaches are expected to:

  1. Attend all BBMHA coaches meetings.
  2. Attend and actively participate in all team development sessions provided by third-party instructors.
  3. Incorporate the skills, learnings, and feedback from development sessions into your team’s practices.
  4. Make every effort to attend all team practices and games.
  5. Adhere to all BBMHA, Hockey Manitoba, and Hockey Canada policies and requirements, including applicable Codes of Conduct and Respect in Sport requirements.

On-Ice Equipment

All coaches who are on the ice must wear a helmet at all times.

Important Deadline

December 1, 2026

All required coaching courses, Respect in Sport, and additional Eastman courses must be completed by this date.
